The Reze Arc Movie Tops Domestic Box Office in First Weekend

Did Sony repeated their success? In the wake of the success of the hit anime Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which grossed over $600 million globally, the latest Chainsaw Man film has officially crossed the hundred-million-dollar milestone worldwide, reaching a global total of $108M during its debut. This movie beat out the thriller Black Phone 2 (almost $13 million) in its sophomore frame in cinemas, as well as the film Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere featuring the talented Jeremy Allen White ($9 million).

Notable Domestic and International Performance

The work of filmmaker Tatsuya Yoshihara, the feature is a straightforward follow-up of the initial season of Chainsaw Man. It brought in $18.2M in the U.S. after a robust $5.2 million Saturday and $4.5M Sunday take. Internationally, the produced by MAPPA feature grossed $14.7M across 46 Sony markets, pushing its worldwide total to $60.4 million via Sony (over $43 million abroad, $18.2M domestic). The studio has not yet revealed its complete box office tally.

Parallels to Other Anime Hits

Specialist agency White Box Entertainment had earlier commented, contrasting the movie's expected results to the popular film Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which earned $34 million in the domestic market in 2022 and debuted with a similar eighteen million dollars domestically. Reze Arc’s debut weekend is in line with that benchmark, while its $108 million international sum is now positioned just behind that movie's $166.6 million total earnings. While it is improbable the Reze Arc movie will achieve the numbers of smash success the enormous hit Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, this is still a significant success for the distributor.

Fan Engagement Campaigns Fuel Success

The studio and its partner Crunchyroll have effectively leveraged audience interaction to boost their dominance at the cinema for anime films. This film's marketing campaign kicked off at Anime Expo Los Angeles in the month of July with a MAPPA presentation, unique experiences, and Pochita photo ops, then continued with a major presence at the New York Comic Con including never-before-seen content, fan raffles, and further MAPPA discussions. Moreover, organizers held an exclusive fan screening for moviegoers and popular figures too after the concluding day of the convention.

What’s Next

2025 is a big year for animated films, and for the studio, which has one more animated movie releasing in 2025 in the film Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution in November.
