The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
