Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase like this with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
