Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs About Manager Chris Wilder

The striker is now a member of the Championship side only seven months following leading insulting taunts targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal with the Championship strugglers through the winter. His seven-year spell at Elland Road finished amicably in August.

Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants about Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull his beloved club away from the drop zone.

Past Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager described the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

All appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he's a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”
