Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
