A charity drive is aiming to launch a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project hopes to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in the autumn. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the rendition was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of musicians contributing to Lullaby encompasses a group of prominent voices from the industry. All participated in the benefit event, which successfully generated a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was crafted by a group of talented individuals. The track showcases a fusion of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the initiative have emphasized that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a spokesperson said. “We will pursue as much as possible. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the territory was characterized as its widespread damage, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a few million won't make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is above all raising awareness for this issue and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
