A high-ranking Russian general has been killed following an blast in Moscow, according to official statements.

The incident occurred on Monday morning when an explosive device planted beneath a vehicle exploded, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.

Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' department for training operations.

Authorities indicated that one possible explanation involves the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. So far, Ukraine has remained silent.

Site of the Incident

Personnel have been dispatched to the location, which is reportedly in a south district of the city.

Accounts state the blast occurred in a car park adjacent to a residential building.

Pattern of Assaults

Since the beginning of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military commanders have been targeted within Moscow.

This latest event echoes other high-profile incidents, such as:

  • General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
  • General Igor Kirillov perished in late 2024 when a device hidden on a scooter was triggered from afar.

While a Ukrainian source in the past attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such claims are rarely officially confirmed as a matter of policy.

The conflict has been marked by shadowy operations extending into the streets of the Russian capital.

The examination into General Sarvarov's death remains underway.
